THREE Melbourne Victory players were named today in the Socceroos squad to meet Singapore on Saturday week. Leigh Broxham, Billy Celeski and Archie Thompson are members of a youthful 17-man squad for the match in Singapore National Stadium. Only four of the squad named by coach Pim Verbeek have played for Australia at senior level and 12 of the 17 are young enough to play in the under-23 team at the Beijing Olympics. With a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match to be played against China in Kunming only four days after the Singapore match, it is an opportunity to win places in the final squad to travel to China.
